High School Counselor Dr. Rebecca Silverstein

Rebecca Bio

My name is Rebecca Silverstein, and I am the 9th and 10th grade counselor. I also teach a Life Skills course to 9th graders.

Originally from the US, my career in psychology has been varied. I have a BA and MS from Southern Connecticut State University, and earned my PhD in Counseling Psychology from New York University prior to moving to Israel with my husband and children 30 years ago.

While I was living in the US, I was part of the mental health team at the NYU Counseling Center and the Monmouth County Mental Health Center and worked as a psychologist on PTSD Unit of the VA Hospital in Lyons, NJ. After moving to Israel, I served as the Dean of Students at the Alexander Muss Overseas Program in Hod Hasharon and as a psychologist at the Student Counseling Center at Bar Ilan University before joining the WBAIS Counseling Team 20 years ago.

Having been inspired by the magical work of medical clowns, in my free time I trained as a therapeutic medical clown with Jeff Gordon, who brought his program to Israel from England. I have been a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Israeli Psychological Association (IPA), the International School Counselor Association (ISCA) and regularly attend conferences sponsored by these and other professional organizations.

My tenure at AIS has afforded me the unique opportunity of experiencing cultures from around the world in working with my international and local students and their families; and this has been the highlight of my career. I enjoy meeting with students and families, and my door is always open!
