Welcome to the Counseling Department
At WBAIS, our counseling program supports the “whole child” by addressing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs. From the moment a new student arrives, our counselors work to ensure a positive and successful educational experience for every child.
Core Values
- Student-Centered Support: Prioritizing each student’s unique values, interests, personality, strengths, needs, and potential.
- Growth Mindset: Encouraging resilience, problem-solving, and lifelong learning.
- Restorative Practices: Fostering respect, accountability, and empathy through restorative approaches.
Our Program Highlights
Aligned with the ISCA standards for social-emotional, academic, global perspective and identity development, and career growth, our program offers:
- Academic Support: Guidance and strategies for success.
- Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Building self-awareness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills.
- Behavior Support: Our counseling team members are available for 1:1 support and responsive services. Students needing more intensive support will be referred to an outside professional.
- Conflict Resolution: AIS takes a Restorative approach to managing conflict, focusing on repairing relationships, fostering understanding, and promoting accountability through open dialogue and collaborative problem-solving.
- Parent and Community Support: Our counselors work closely with parents to provide the best support for students. By partnering with families and staff, we ensure a cohesive approach to student well-being. Throughout the year, we offer parent workshops and share valuable resources. In our diverse and dynamic community, we prioritize smooth transitions and adaptability, creating a consistent, supportive environment where all students can thrive.
Our Approach
Our program follows a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), delivering evidence-based interventions tailored to meet diverse student needs. This tiered approach ensures that every student receives the right level of support—whether through whole-class strategies, small-group interventions, or individualized plans. We believe in a whole-school effort, where everyone—teachers, counselors, school leaders, and caregivers—shares responsibility for fostering growth.
In our multicultural and transient community, we emphasize smooth transitions and adaptability, working with families, staff, and community resources to provide a consistent and supportive environment where all students thrive.
